La Bataille de Collarmont

Description

In the Lalues neighbourhood, on 22 August, the machine guns of the French soldiers, strategically positioned at the top of slag heap no. 4, were particularly effective. The German soldiers went around the French positions through the wood and Mont-Sainte-Aldegonde. The men engaged in hand-to-hand and bayonet combat. Following the massacre and the fire in around seventy buildings, the Red Cross staff were fully deployed. With the large number of people killed and injured, the farmers’ carts were requisitioned. The walk will take you to the French military cemetery.
