Practical information
Description
In 1635 is founded a brotherhood, led by the Mambour, in honor of Saint-Eloi, and approved by a bull of Pope Urban VIII: this is the origin of our procession/
The feast takes place every year on the fourth Sunday of June, the anniversary of the translation of the saint’s relics.
The day begins at 7 am with the traditional blessing of the horses and the water of the fountain, followed by the high mass.
At noon, the procession, escorted by the Marche Saint-Eloi composed of sappers, grenadiers and zouaves, and accompanied by the Fanfare Royale Saint-Eloi, goes by "the great tower" to the chapel Saint-Eloi. After a short break, the procession returns to perform the solemn re-entry to the church. It is at this moment that the battery interprets the 'March of the Turks", unique fact in the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse.
The day ends with the traditional distribution of rolls and flags to all participants.
