The overall objective of the project is to strengthen and promote the attractiveness of 15 slag heap complexes in the Franco-Walloon mining basin through the development of an innovative cross-border tourism and cultural offer.
The aim is to sustainably and inclusively enhance the industrial, natural, and landscape heritage represented by the slag heaps and mining sites that mark this increasingly recognized but still underexploited tourist area.

Overview of key achievements:

  • Provision of maps of natural environments and delivery of tailored management sheets

  • Creation, improvement, and securing of signposted trails

  • Organization of participatory development projects on slag heaps with local stakeholders

  • Training of ambassador guides

  • Development of pilot sites, adapted and inclusive guided tours, and interpretation tools to better welcome visitors with specific needs

  • Production of podcasts and audio guides

  • Creation of treasure hunts

  • Implementation of innovative tourism packages

  • Establishment of a cross-border hiking and cycling network

  • Equipment and signage for long-distance hiking and cycling

  • Production of a cross-border discovery map combining hiking and cycling itineraries

  • Artistic installations on and around the slag heaps (three in Wallonia, one in the territory)

  • Creation of storytelling trails and associated tourist walks

  • Organization of a major artistic event within the territory
